When interior designers, corporate art consultants and other industry art professionals are hired to help their clients one of their most valuable resources is the Pantone Color Institute. This vital organization uses color theory to interpret trends — looking at fashion, design and “socio-economic conditions” for inspiration.
Well, Pantone has announced the 2023 color is “Viva Magenta”. On the Pantone website they describe this color as one that “vibrates with vim and vigor. It is a shade rooted in nature descending from the red family and expressive of a new signal of strength.” They refer to the bravado and empowering characteristics of this color “whose exuberance promotes a joyous and optimistic celebration, writing a new narrative.”
“Viva Magenta” is sure to appeal to the most courageous artists and art lovers who want to share their joie de vivre and express a rebellious spirit.
You may recall my recent article Announcing The Colors of the Year for 2023 in which I focus on the colors chosen by Benjamin Moore and Sherwin-Williams, the two leading home paint experts that interior designers rely on for updates in the industry. You will find “Viva Magenta” is a more vibrant option to the equally beautiful Benjamin Moore’s “Raspberry Blush” pick of the year, which to me resembles a terra cotta. Both selections are warm and cheerful. They are also colors that are prevalent in the natural world. So, if you’re an artist inspired by nature I’m sure many of your works of art contain these colors or are very compatible with them.
Meg Black’s Painting is Bursting With “Viva Magenta”
Meg Black is a renowned artist who is delighted about Pantone’s color choice. She loves this color and uses magenta in many of her superior works of art. Although this painting “Glorious Peonies” is already in a private collection you may visit her website at megblack.com to view many more beautiful alternatives using this color and more colors in an array of her other nature-inspired works of art.

Advice for Artists
As an artist having information about color trends can be a valuable art marketing tool, especially if you work frequently with interior designers. When your artwork and the art market are compatible it’s a win-win situation. For example, if a new color trend is announced you can combine this information with the attributes of your artwork.
If the color choice of the year is not in your wheel house don’t dismay. Don’t feel deflated if this news doesn’t match the color palette you use. Designers say gray and white walls and finishes are still the favorite of most homeowners. If you create art in the neutral tones rest assured your art will still be in demand by a large segment of the population.

Hello Renee, My name is Lisa Tabor, and I am the owner of Glorious Peonies by Meg Black. It is my front yard with my “Glorious Peonies”. I don’t ever get over how gorgeous it is seeing a picture of it posted somewhere, but, believe or not, it is even more gorgeous in person.
I have passed on your article to some of my clients that I have worked with in the past.
Have an outstanding week and Christmas. Lisa 🙂
