The Pantone Color Institute, pantone.com, is an extremely valuable resource for artists, interior designers, corporate art consultants and other industry art professionals. When you visit the Pantone Color Institute website you will quickly learn about the extensive services it provides.

Mocha is Pantone's Color of the Year for 2025
Mocha Mousse is Pantone’s Color of the Year for 2025

On its website the Institute states: “Recognized globally as a leading source of color expertise, Pantone Color Institute provides color insights and solutions; collaborating with our clients to strategically address color challenges and develop a color and design approach consistent with their brand vision.”

Every year we eagerly wait for the Pantone Color Institute to announce its color choice for the year. This vital organization uses color theory to interpret trends — looking at fashion, design and “socio-economic conditions” for inspiration.

If you are an artist who is color conscious works with the professionals who rely on the Institute’s expertise, it is important to be aware of these color trends.

As stated on the Pantone Institute website “Color is a critical element of the design process, increasing brand recognition by 87% and influencing up to 85% of product purchases.” As a trusted color leader the Pantone Color Institute provides many services and emphasizes, “We can develop a comprehensive set of solutions that leverages the power of color, increasing color confidence and achieving brand goals.”

For 2025, the Pantone Color Institute selects PANTONE 17-1230 “Mocha Mousse”

The Institute describes this color as “a warming, brown hue imbued with richness. It nurtures us with its suggestion of the delectable qualities of chocolate and coffee, answering our desire for comfort.”

Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute, said the color evokes “thoughtful indulgence.” She also stated, “Sophisticated and lush, yet at the same time an unpretentious classic, PANTONE 17-1230 Mocha Mousse extends our perceptions of the browns from being humble and grounded to embrace the aspirational and luxe.”

Examples of Art Containing Mocha Mousse

This color Mocha Mouse can be found in numerous works of art. The color is soft, velvety and smooth, a neutral that is compatible with many hues.

Eva Breitfuss, evabreitfuss.space, creates a range of awe-inspiring art from minimal and reductive imagery and open spaces to geometric shapes, detailed designs, and intricate compositions. Her art portfolio is known as “Art Of Presence”. Shown here is her engaging painting “Presence”, acrylic, 12″ x 8″ with earth tones including the color of the year “Mocha Mouse”.

We find the color abundant in architecture, as we see here in the painting “View From Warren Street”, acrylic on canvas, 14″ x 18″by Elliot Appel.

Elliot Appel, elliotappelpaints.com, creates paintings that capture old New York City and Hoboken storefronts, with their graffiti-covered doorways, city grime and sharp perspective. His images both confront and draw the viewer into the mesmerizing cinematic-like worlds that he creates with superb attention to light, shadow and details.

Monet’s painting here also contains the earth tones that harmonize well with Mocha Mousse.

Interestingly, when Monet painted the Rouen Cathedral series, he was highly influenced by how light on a subject imparts a distinctly different character at different times of the day and the year. He also observed how light and atmospheric conditions change. For Monet, the effects of light on a subject became as important as the subject itself. That explains his many shades of brown and other neutral colors in the painting above.

“Forest Path” series: “Country Road Orange”, “Dirt Road”, and “Yellow Path”, digitally modified photographs, two different sizes available in print only or framed.
“Forest Path” series: “Country Road Orange”, “Dirt Road”, and “Yellow Path”, digitally modified photographs, by Alison Thomas.

We also find this color Mocha Mousse prevalent in nature in sand, soil, trees, foliage, rocks and hills. If you are a nature-inspired artist this should be excellent news for you.

The photographs by Alison Thomas serenityscenes.com shown above contain Mocha Mousse, especially in the paths, fall leaves, and distant foliage. Alison’s nature-inspired “Serenity Scenes” deliver a sublime spiritual experience for viewers. The three metaphorical “Forest Path” photographs shown above convey a sense of wonder, quietude, and mystery. We are lured into embarking on a contemplative visual and visceral journey where new discoveries and experiences await.
