Every year I curate the “HerStory” exhibition on the Manhattan Arts International website. When the exhibition is published, I notify the exhibiting artists to thank and congratulate them. In the email, I often include a few suggestions, such as: Add the exhibition to your resume; Share the link to the exhibition in social media; and Reach out to fellow exhibiting artists.
What transpired next inspired me to write this post “Creating Bonds of Strengths with Fellow Artists”.
In 2021 after the email was sent, within minutes I received a steady stream of emails from the recipients. I was delighted that many artists immediately embraced my ideas. They let me know they shared news of the exhibition on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and Linkedin. They also reached out to the other women artists in the show, congratulating them and sharing their art in social media.
As a result, new relationships are being formed, and many relationships are being rekindled.
A few artists wrote blog posts about the exhibition on their websites with links to it.
Artists are making comments about the exhibition. The most frequent comment is, “I’m so honored and humbled to be included with these amazingly talented women artists…”
The Power of Camaraderie
For a moment, imagine not having any contact with fellow artists and no possibility of camaraderie or mutual support. It seems inconceivable, and dare I say unbearable, doesn’t it?
Many years ago, when I was an artist, I learned that the most valuable treasures you may ever have in your art career are your relationships with fellow artists. Few artists I know have achieved fully satisfying art careers without them. Alone, they struggled.
The art world is currently in a process of evolution with some turbulence and transitions on the horizon. Artists can be a powerful collective force for embarking on this journey together and innovating new ways art is exhibited and sold.
Can’t you already feel the changes?
United You Can Create the Change You Wish to See
Gandhi wrote, “If we could change ourselves, the tendencies in the world would also change. As a man changes his own nature, so does the attitude of the world change towards him.” His words resonate strongly today in light of recent events.
You can either stand alone and become engulfed in the waves of uncertainty and fear or you can form positive and powerful bonds of strength with fellow artists. The choice is yours.
My message to you is unite, face and embrace the challenges together, and make the most of this exciting time in history to create positive change.
Take the helm beside your fellow artists and together you can redirect the tide and flow of artistic progress!
