My Appreciation to All Artists
The artist’s impact on civilization and the economy is immeasurable and not often given sufficient credit. The truth is, if it were not for the artist we would suffer from stagnation, despair and chaos. Without art we would become dehumanized.
The contemporary art world is a complex and fascinating web of art and commerce. It depends upon a diverse number of individuals, each one contributing in some way by playing a crucial role, none more noticeably important than the other – except for the artist. The artist’s impact on our economy is immeasurable.
Artists Support An Immense Economy
The countless professionals that dependent upon artists for their income include art dealers, framers, supply manufacturers, photographers, critics, auctioneers, museum curators, print publishers, website designers, art marketing consultants, art career coaches, authors of art business books, social media platforms, and many more.
Artists Transform Communities
The artist’s influence on the world of real estate is also staggering. Groups of impassioned and determined artists have been responsible for transforming bleak districts into desirable, posh enclaves, such as SoHo, Tribeca, Chelsea and Dumbo in New York City, as well as Provincetown, the Hamptons and London’s Chelsea, to name a few. However, rather than being supported and revered for their efforts toward renovating, beautifying and financially enriching their environment, their rewards are often unjust rent hikes and eventual eviction.
Artists who create sidewalk art and building murals, those who embark on public art projects, all contribute to beautifying and enlivening the community that would otherwise be uneventful and lifeless.
Dear Artist, Celebrate Your Power
Each day is an opportunity to celebrate the gifts that have been bestowed upon you. You have an acute sensitivity to a myriad of stimuli. You have the power to create something that, before you imagined it, did not exist. With a blank canvas or sheet of paper, a slab of clay, hunk of stone, camera lens, found objects or computer technology, you are capable of bringing inner visions to outer forms. You possess a unique power to elicit a response, alter a person’s consciousness and have a major impact on those who see your work and change the course of art history!
That is cause for celebration! You owe it to yourself and to others with every breath you take to use your innate talent to its greatest potential, to claim your voice and to tell your story, to share your gifts and to enrich and deepen our understanding of the human condition.
Satisfy yourself, avoid being derivative, and refuse to compromise on your values and core beliefs. Always aim to express your unique creative vision. Develop your own signature style. Create your own visual path. Embrace the subjects, colors, textures, ideas, experiences, shapes and events that resonate most strongly to you.
Follow your muse, bring your inspiration to fruition, and take that to the bank with pride!
